MAC Eyeshadow Collection: Romp.

What MAC says: Chocolate laced with gold and a frost finish.

What I say: Warm dark golden color. Just what I thought Mulch would be.

How to wear it: All over the lid, on top of a brown pencil (or cream base) for a warm brown smokey eye. It also works great paired with any other golden eye shadow that you might have.

Is it worth it? Yes. It is the only golden eye shadow I have that looks good on my skin tone (NC30 in winter/NC35 in summer), everything else just clashes and looks unnatural. It is a shame that MAC chose to discontinue this one!

MAC Eyeshadow Collection: Satin Taupe.

What MAC says: Taupe with silver shimmer and a frost finish.

What I say: Taupe with a purplish tinge to it. It can be applied as a light veil of color or packed on to the lid for a much darker effect.

How to wear it: Lightly applied all around the eye for a modern, day time, smokey eye. On the outer V or crease of the eye with Patina, Ricepaper, Vex or any other lighter eyeshadow acting as a base.

Is it worth it? Yes, it is a great quality eye shadow that would work on a wide range of skin tones. However, I have to point out that many brands produce similar colors. Catrice, Kiko, NYX, Inglot, Urban Decay (just to name a few) have their own version of this eyeshadow. Some of them are cheaper than MAC, so it’s up to you to decide how much you’d like to spend on it.

MAC Eyeshadow Collection: Patina.

What MAC says: Taupe brown with golden pearl and a frost finish.

What I say: Tarnished gold bordering on green. It is a very special shade.

How to wear it: All over the lid with smudged black eye shadow on the lash line. Also paired with Satin Taupe or Mulch on the outer-V (this seems to be a classical MAC counter combo)

Is it worth it? Yes. It is a very unique shade that you won’t find on any other brand. It also blends like a dream and works with many different eye shadows.

MAC Eyeshadow Collection: Mystery.

What MAC says: Muted plum-brown with a satin finish.

What I say: Cool, dark brown, almost grey with a fairly good pigmentation.

How I wear it: I use this one to fill my eyebrows as it is the perfect match to my pitch, dark hair (always go a shade lighter on the brows!) I've also used it to darken up smokey eyes (lash line, crease, or outer V) when I think that a black eyeshadow would be too harsh.

Is it worth it? Yes. It has a great staying power; it doesn't fade or budge on my brows or lids.

MAC Eyeshadow Collection: Corduroy.

What MAC says: Muted reddish-brown with a matte finish.

What I say: Mid-tone brown. It looks warmer on the pan than it really is.

How to wear it: On the crease to define the shape of the eye. I also wear it all over the lid (with some other black eyeshadow) to create a classic smokey eye.

Is it worth it? Yes, it has a good pigmentation and it’s a classic shade that could work for different purposes on a wide range of skin colors.

MAC Eyeshadow Collection: Wedge.

What MAC says: Soft muted beige taupe with a matte finish.

What I say: Neutral beige. I find that it doesn't have a great pigmentation.

How to wear it: As a transition color. Since the color blends great with my own skin tone, I use it to soften the edges when another eyeshadow is especially hard to blend.

Is it worth it? I’m on the fence about this one. I use it a lot but, to be honest, it is an easily dupable eye shadow. I would recommend you to look around in case you find something similar for half the price.

MAC Eyeshadow Collection: Brown Script.

What MAC says: Warm chestnut brown with a matte finish.

What I say: A dark orange, almost terracotta color. The matte² finish makes it easier to blend than the original “mattes”.

How to wear it: All over the lid (and some black eye shadow around the lash line) to create a “grunge” smokey eye. I also use it on the crease when I want to warm up the eye look.

Is it worth it? Yes, if you like/suit warm eye shadows. This one has a strong red undertone so it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. It is a very unique color; try it before you buy it!
